The Broken System: How Dedicated Directors are Fighting for Children's Futures in Rural Underserved South Alabama
As I have surveyed multiple communities in rural underserved South Alabama, it has become clear to me that parents are at a high risk of losing their children to a broken system. However, in these communities, I have also witnessed the power of dedicated individuals who are making a difference in the lives of children. These directors are working tirelessly to meet the basic needs of children, nurture them towards a brighter future, and promote upward mobility. They embody the principle of compassion, providing a holistic approach that addresses the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of residents. Through community programs and activities, such as the math program and teen and tween book club, these directors are providing opportunities for children to connect with their peers and mentors in a supportive environment.
